Введение
Each language is unique and has its own characteristics. A person who speaks a foreign language uses a variety of lexical units, uses different grammatical and phonetic laws of the language. However, often speakers are helpless in front of the simplest speech situations that require language behavior corresponding to a certain communicative strategy. There are paradoxes of speech communication: a person from time to time feels a complete inability to speech interaction with other members of the same language team. And it's not knowing the language-it's usually the inability to use it correctly, that is, the inability to "place" themselves in a particular speech situation.
Many Russian and foreign linguists have been studying the concept of metaphor. But until now, there are differences in the linguistic understanding of metaphors between scientists. By the efforts of modern linguists, in particular, Cherkasova E. T., Serebrennikov B. A., and Kubryakov E. S., the linguistic concepts and processes that determine the emergence and functioning of the metaphor in speech were determined. These include: the basic meaning of the word, the General semantic element, which is the result of the formation of the semantic bi-plane of metaphorical meaning; lexical-semantic connection of words, logically not relevant to the real relations of objects and phenomena of reality, a certain semantic word class, the grammatical category of animacy of nouns.
A metaphor is a statement about the properties of an object based on some similarity with the word already defined in a reinterpreted sense. Here are possible hypothetical speculation prevails and the subjective beginning in the view is valid. Therefore, the metaphor is so widely used in the qualification-evaluation activity of consciousness. The technique of metaphor – the indirect category. This pattern is due to the fact that the formation of indirect names in the reinterpreted value actualizes those features that are essential with respect to the meaning and detonation of the reference name. This creates conditions for predicting objects of new, improper features for them, and thus – for the abrupt development of a new meaning due to the interference of the already designated prior value of the properties of the object and merging with it features attributed to the newly designated "from the" reference name.
These provisions have already become traditional, classical in the theory of metaphor, for example: statements about the semantic two-dimensional metaphors, about the General and figurative meanings of semantic components, about the unusual metaphorical environment, about certain semantic classes of words that can develop figurative meanings.Metaphor as a linguistic phenomenon occurs not only in oral speech, but also in writing. The great significance of the metaphor lies in its use in artistic works. There is no author who would not use metaphorical transfer to describe the characters, different phenomena and actions in bright colors.
The relevance of the work is determined by the ambiguity of the metaphor as a linguistic unit. In addition, the metaphor is used in all works of art, but we believe that a relatively small number of scientists are engaged in the allocation of metaphors in the works.
The basis of the practical part of the thesis were taken penalty English performers. Our choice is not accidental, as this work is widely used in research.
To achieve the goal, the following tasks are solved:
1. identify the main functions and features of the metaphor;
2. consider the main types of metaphors;
3. find a metaphor for English songs
Object of research: metaphor as a linguistic phenomenon.
The subject of the study of the thesis is a metaphor in English songs.
The work consists of an introduction, two chapters, conclusions on chapters, conclusion and list of references.
