The story The Snob written by Morley Callaghan tells us about a young man who might have lost everything he cares about only because he is ashamed of his background. Morley Callaghan was a Canadian novelist, short story writer and playwright. He lived and worked in the 20th century.
The text represents Belles-Lettres style, the genre is a short story. The narration is done in the 3rd person, the author is omniscient. I would call this story a situational one. We do have a suspense and the climax, but the introduction and resolution are hard to define. The story has an open ending; we never know what happens between the protagonist and his father after the incident. The action lasts not more than 10 minutes, the whole story is just a description of a tiny but significant moment of someone’s life.

In general, the lexical content of the story is pretty rich. Morley Callaghan makes use of many literary words, for example to be delighted, splendid, resentment, exasperation, diffidence and so on. At the same time, he adds a colloquial phrase to turn up one’s nose. Most of the sentences are prolonged and quite complex, except the sentences in the inner monologue and in dialogs.
