Electronic communications may result in having fewer social skills. (Эссе для олимпиады абитуриенту).

Фрагмент работы для ознакомления

In connection with the problem of virtual environment it is necessary to revise the question of meaning and functions of a game. The concept of personality is gradually losing its significance in Internet, where the opportunity of role reversal, which is a special attribute of games, becomes usual thing, for a person may have different names, persist in different statements and so on. Therefore on the one hand Internet contributes greatly to self-actualization, because every person may advance any opinion regardless of his or her sociability or asociality, appearance, mental abilities and intellect. A person is able to create his or her image, he or she can control the situation. However there is a real danger to become a hostage of the own image and the situation controlled seemingly.Just the opportunity of improving the image and managing it warps person’s judgement, prevents a person to understand what is he or she in deed and not in name, and so does not give a chance to self-actualize.
Virtual communication often devaluate the centuries-old human questions concerning the problem of freedom, of its combination with necessity, of good and evil, of responsibility and victimhood. In this context the influence of Internet is surely negative, for it deflects attention away from fulfilling person’s main purpose, which is the searching of the meaning of life. So a person can not be adequate in day-to-day communication, for he or she has lost the main qualities which are necessary for productive intercourse with other people.
The dependence on Internet may be described as escaping from reality to virtuality. The problem appears when the pursuit of reclusion begins dominating in consciousness and becomes the central idea that encroaches upon human life. Thus and so a person not only does not solve important problems but checks in his or her spiritual growth, transferring to virtual world entirely for it seems more comfortable.
Any activities in Internet are usually connected with freedom without any responsibilities. In the computer games a person acts out of the danger of being killed, he or she can not be incriminated or accused for he or she may always change his or her nick or image, a person may also leave one web site for another, interrupt the communication with other people and so on. Such situation does not provide the conditions for generating and supporting of any ethical principles. Anyway the Internet ethics, even if its principles are formulated clearly, is hardly connected with self-actualizing of individual person, it will be most probably some law, stating the principles of coexistence in virtual life.
