What Is Information Technology Today?
A 1958 article in Harvard Business Review referred to information technology as consisting of three basic parts: computational data processing, decision support, and business software. This time period marked the beginning of IT as an officially defined area of business; in fact, this article probably coined the term.
Over the ensuring decades, many corporations created so-called "IT departments" to manage the computer technologies related to their business. Today, IT departments have responsibility in areas like: computer technical support; business computer network and database administration; business software deployment; information security.
Especially during the dot-com boom of the 1990s, Information Technology also became associated with aspects of computing beyond those owned by IT departments. This broader definition of IT includes areas like: software development; computer systems architecture; project management.
Job posting sites commonly use IT as a category in their databases. The category includes a wide range of jobs across architecture, engineering and administration functions. People with jobs in these areas typically have college degrees in computer science and/or information systems. A career in Information Technology can involve working in or leading IT departments, product development teams, or research groups.
Since adequate IT support has become absolutely indispensable in managing business processes, there is a huge variety of employment opportunities in almost every industry branch, starting from the IT branch itself (e.g. software companies, business consultancies, computer manufacturer) to processing/manufacturing industry branches, credit institutions and insurance companies to service providers and management consultancy firms.

Robots in Our Life
A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own. Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing. These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans in dangerous environments or manufacturing processes, or resemble humans in appearance, behavior, and cognition.
Many of the robots in use today do jobs that are especially difficult for human workers. These are the types of jobs that require great strength or pose danger. For example, robots are particularly useful in the automanufacturing industry where parts of automobiles must be welded together. A welding tool used by a human worker weighs about 100 pounds or more and is difficult to handle. As mechanical supermen, robots may be called upon to do anything from moving heavy components between workstations on a factory floor to carrying bags of cement.
Robots shine at installing chips in printed circuit boards because of a capability that robots have that people don’t. A robot once properly programmed, will not put a chip in the wrong place. This automatic accuracy is particularly valuable in this kind of industry because locating and fixing mistakes is costly. Earlier robots were usually blind and deaf but newer types of robots are fitted with video cameras and other sensing devices that can detect heat, texture, size, and sound. These robots are used in space projects, nuclear reactor stations, and underwater exploration research.
In the meantime, the robotics revolution is already beginning to change the kind of work that people do. The boring and dangerous jobs are now assumed by robots. The possibilities of robot autonomy and potential repercussions have been addressed in fiction and may be a realistic concern in the future.
