Let us consider the following example: It rises or falls for rain and fine, with much or less wind, and one end is "Nly" and the other "Ely" (what's Ely got to do with it?), and if you tap it, it doesn't tell you anything. Here the word Ely is also misunderstood by the protagonist. On the compass Nly and Ely mean "north" and "east" respectively. The protagonist, in turn, understood it as a part of the Ely Cambridge shire, so he thinks that the mark on the compass points on this part instead of the east in general. What is more, hyperbole is used in the following example: I rummaged the things up into much the same state that they must have been before the world was created, and when chaos reigned. The use of hyperbole with an allusion to the Bible (before the world was created, and when chaos reigned) results in more imaginative and comic characterization of the state of things in a suitcase, since they are compared with the chaos that reigned before the creation of the world. Thus, it has been revealed that, although the story of Jerome K. Jerome's “Three Men in a Boat” represents different stylistic effects of expressing humor, the main one of creating a comic effect is the use of irony and witty observations concerning life and society. 1
